Following his school record-tying performance, Southeast Missouri State senior Joey Lucchesi was tabbed the Ohio Valley Conference's Pitcher of the Week and the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week on Monday.
The senior lefty's 17 strikeouts against Murray State in the Redhawks' 10-3 win on Thursday night tied the Southeast record set by John Holdner in 1961.
He improved to 8-3 with the victory, allowing one run in eight innings. He gave up just six hits and walked two.
It's the second time this season that Lucchesi has earned OVC Pitcher of the Week and been the national player of the week.
The defending OVC Pitcher of the Year leads the league with a 1.69 ERA and 105 strikeouts, which is also the most in Division I baseball.
The Redhawks (31-12, 20-4 OVC) host Saint Louis at 6 p.m. tonight.
