Southeast gymnasts bump off Illinois St.

~ The Redhawks improved to 6-0 in the Midwest Independent Conference

The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team continued its strong season Sunday by beating Midwest Independent Conference rival Illinois State at Houck Field House.

Southeast scored 194.375, compared to 193.275 for ISU, as the Redhawks improved to 11-2 overall and 6-0 in the MIC.

The meet was highlighted by Southeast freshman Jordan Salsberg winning her first collegiate all-around title with a career-high score of 38.825.

Salsberg led the way on vault with a first-place 9.775. Junior Brianna Gaddie and senior Amber Garlotte tied for second at 9.725.

Senior Kelley Krengiel won the bars title by matching her career-high score of 9.800. Senior Rikara Turner had a season-high 9.775 to place second, while sophomore Emily Mann was third with 9.725.

Southeast scored a season-high 48.525 on beam, led by freshman Taylor Westrick's first-place 9.800 that marked a career high. Salsberg was third with 9.725. Freshman Sarah Brillhart was fourth as she tied her career high with 9.700.

Gaddie tied for the win on floor with 9.875. Junior Christina Sundgren was fourth with 9.750.

Southeast returns to action Sunday with the second of four straight home meets, the annual Outback Steakhouse Invitational. The 2 p.m. triangular against Missouri and Alaska will mark Southeast's lone meet of the year at the Show Me Center.
