NASHVILLE -- Only two shots separated the top five scores for Southeast Missouri's golf team and the Indians finished Friday's first round of the Tennessee State University Invitational tied for eighth.

Southeast's scores ranged from 2-over par to 4-over par on the par 72 layout at the Hermitige Golf Course.

The Indians, who finished at 11-over-par 299, trail front-runner Jacksonville State by 20 strokes. Jacksonville (279) takes a seven-shot lead over East Carolina University into today's final round.

East Carolina (286) was followed by Cincinnati (288), Tennessee Tech (289), Florida A&M (289), Austin Peay (291), Tennessee-Martin (297), Southeast, Tennessee State (299), Western Kentucky (302), University of Detroit-Mercy (307), Akron University (308), Dayton (309) and Belmont (331).

In individual competition, Jacksonville's Ramiro Perez takes a one-stroke lead into today after firing a 5-under-par 67.

Derek Rahlmann and Jason Owens each shot 74 for Southeast. Ryan Florek carded a 75 while Matt Clabaugh and Shawn Edgar both finished at 76.
