PICKWICK, Tenn. -- Led by Ryan Jacques' even-par 72, the Southeast Missouri State University men's golf team stood tied for fourth after Monday's opening round of the 1997 Tri-State Classic hosted by Tennessee-Martin at the Pickwick Landing State Park Golf Course.

Western Kentucky leads the 14-team field with a 287 total, followed by Louisiana Tech (289), North Alabama (293), and Southeast Missouri and Union (294). Sixth-place Tennessee Tech was another three shots back.

For Southeast, Jason Owen added a 73, while Shawn Edgar shot a 74 and Scott Roe a 75.

Louisiana Tech's Seane Richardson held a one-stroke lead in individual play with a 68. One stroke back was teammate Andy Stinson and Union's Steven Hammond.

Second-round play will be held today.
