NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma combined a mix of power hitting and stingy pitching to hand Southeast Missouri State University a 10-1 defeat.
Southeast (0-2) dropped its season opener to the Sooners Friday, 5-4, in ten innings.
A shaky Southeast defense led to two unearned runs early, then Oklahoma chased starter Ryan Cheo with four runs in the fourth inning, the big blow a two-run homer by rightfielder Tyler Johnson.
Cheo, a transfer from UCLA making his first Southeast appearance, took the loss. He was charged with four earned runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Matt Bose and Jason Fransz hit solo homers for the Sooners, who improved to 4-1.
Oklahoma starter Rocky Cherry (1-1) picked up the win as he allowed only one hit in seven innings.
Vern Hatton knocked in Zach Borowiak for the only Indian run in the top of the ninth inning.
