Sorenstam rolls to her 60th career victory

Annika Sorenstam made it to the first tee on time, which was all she really needed to do.

The final round of the Chick-fil-A Charity Championship in Stockbridge, Ga., was nothing more than a victory lap.

Bouncing back from her first loss of the year with one of her most dominating performances, Sorenstam blew away the field by 10 strokes Sunday for career win No. 60.

She came into the day with a 10-shot lead. She finished that way with a bogey-free 67 at Eagle's Landing Country Club south of Atlanta.

"We were playing a different tournament," said runner-up Candie Kung, who closed with a 65 that was good enough to win the B-Flight. "She's up there in her own little world."

Sorenstam finished with a 23-under 265, matching the biggest 72-hole win of her career.

PGA Tour

Heartbroken by two close calls last year, Ted Purdy had a birdie putt on every hole and closed with a 5-under 65 to win the Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, Texas, for his first PGA Tour victory.

Purdy, ranked No. 173 in the world, played methodical golf for a one-shot victory over Sean O'Hair, who started the day with a one-shot lead. O'Hair birdied two of the last three holes for a 68 and earned $669,600, assuring the Q-school grad his card for next year .

Vijay Singh finished strong with an ace on the 195-yard 17th hole with a 7-iron, and a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a 65. He tied for third with Bob Tway (67) and Doug Barron (69) at 11 under.

European PGA Tour

Denmark's Thomas Bjorn won the British Masters for his first PGA European Tour title since 2002, beating England's David Howell with a par on the second hole of a playoff in Meriden, England.

Bjorn, an eight-time winner on the European tour, closed with a 4-under 68 to match Howell and England's Brian Davis at 6-under 282 on the Forest of Arden course. Davis was eliminated on the first extra hole.

New Zealand's Michael Campbell, the third-round lead, shot a 73 to finish a stroke out of the playoff.
