Southeast Missouri State star 400-meter runner Miles Smith has added another All-American honor to his impressive list of accomplishments.
Smith was recently named to the NCAA Division I men's outdoor track and field All-American team selected by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Smith, who will be a senior next season, finished ninth in the NCAA 400-meters despite suffering a pulled hamstring during the semifinals.
In Division I track and field, the top eight finishers in each event at the NCAA championships are awarded All-American status. In the individual events, if one or more of the top eight finishers are of another nationality, eight American-born athletes are selected in addition to any foreign-born All-Americans.
The All-American award is the third for Smith, who earned indoor honors this year by finishing seventh at the NCAA meet and outdoor honors in 2005 by placing fifth at the NCAA meet.
Smith was also named to the All-Mideast Region team, along with teammates Alonzo Nelson (hurdles), Heather Jenkins (discus) and the 1,600 relay team of Smith, Nelson, Walter Washington and Chris Poindexter.
