SIU's Kill transferred to hospital in St. Louis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois football coach Jerry Kill remained hospitalized Monday, two days after being stricken by a seizure in the closing seconds of the Salukis' 61-35 home loss to Illinois State.

Kill was transferred Monday afternoon from Carbondale Memorial Hospital to a St. Louis hospital for more tests. Doctors have not set a date for his release or said when he will be able to return to coaching, according to a statement from the university.

The coach's family requested that the name of the hospital not be released, said Tom Weber, the Salukis' sports information director,

On Sunday, Kill, 44, said through the university that "I am just anxious to get back to work" once he fully recovers from Saturday night's seizure -- his second in four years.

Kill, who has a medical condition that occasionally manifests itself with seizures, had a seizure in November 2001 shortly after the Salukis lost to then-Southwest Missouri State, the school said. Kill returned to coach the next week.

Weber said the Salukis (4-2, 2-1 Gateway) went about "business as usual" with workouts Monday in preparation for Saturday's game at Indiana State. In Kill's absence, the team would be led by defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys and offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover, Weber said.
