SIKESTON -- Sikeston edged Dexter by one stroke in its own Invitational tournament held at Sikeston Country Club. SIKESTON -- Sikeston edged Dexter by one stroke in its own Invitational tournament held at Sikeston Country Club.

Most area golf teams participated in the tournament in which the top five teams were within ten strokes of each other.

Sikeston won with a 312 total and was followed by Dexter (313), Jackson (319), Farmington (321), Cape Central (322), Notre Dame (330), St. Vincent (333), New Madrid (337), Poplar Bluff and Sikeston's second team (346), Clearwater (357) and Malden (382).

Individual medalist honors for the tournament went to Dexter's Kyle Christian with a 2-over-par 73. Individual runner-up was Dusty York of Cape Central with a 74.

Jackson's Peyton Sims (77), Matt Litz (79), Chris Pike (81), Brett McDowell and Kyle Perry (tied at 82) led the Indians to a third-place finish.

Rounding out the scores for Cape Central were Nick Harter (79), Josh Miller (81) and Luke Oliver (88).

Notre Dame's scoring consisted of Tim Buerck (77), Nick Martin (81), Derek Welter (85) and Ryan Hannan (87).

Scoring for St. Vincent was Craig Schumer (80), Ryan Prost and John Paulus (84) and Keith Pecant (85).

BOYS BASEBALL

De Soto 7, St. Vincent 4

PERRYVILLE -- St. Vincent committed three errors which led to four unearned runs.

Gabe Hotop led the Indians with two hits and two runs batted in, while Adam Bockman had a hit, a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored.

Derek Kutz suffered the loss. He went the distance and allowed three earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six.

After De Soto hit back-to-back homers in the top of the first, St. Vincent (5-9) tied it up at 2-2 in the bottom of the first, but De Soto got a bases-loaded double to go up 5-2 in the second. The Indians cut the lead to 5-4 in the fourth, but De Soto got a couple of insurance runs in the seventh.

PERRYVILLE -- The Squaws improved to 3-4 on the year in easy fashion.

Cari Strattman and Nicole Richardet scored two goals apiece, while Caitlin Hoeh, Danielle Sutterer and Beth Hennemann each also found the scoring column.

Hoeh, Sutterer, Kindle Ernst and Chelsey Brown each provided assists.

BOYS TRACK

Jackson takes sixth

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Jackson took sixth place in a 17-team boys meet with 48 points in the Ste. Genevieve Invitational.

Tim Spradlin took first in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 6 1/2 inches. He also took third in the discus at 130 feet.

Jason Jones took third in the long jump at 19-4 and second in the triple jump at 42-0 1/2.

Jackson standout sprinter Mario Whitney did not compete in the meet.

Ste. Genevieve will hold a girls meet on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

Delta 18, Charleston 5

CHARLESTON -- Delta High's softball team pounded 18 hits and scored 18 runs in the win over Charleston.

Winning pitcher Rebecca Cook hurled a four-hitter, allowing six walks and striking out 11. Cook's dominant performance evened her record at 5-5.

Rebecca Below and Stephanie Dannenmueller each had four hits. Amy Wyckoff belted a solo homer among her three hits.

The Lady Bobcats' record now stands at 7-5 for the season.
