SIKESTON, Mo. — Sikeston claimed a hard-fought victory over Eagle Ridge Christian on Thursday, April 13.
The Lady Bulldogs (2-7) won 1-0 in the tense and closely contested affair thanks to a well-taken goal and a solid defensive performance.
“We were the aggressor throughout most of the match and outshot Eagle Ridge 15-6,” said Sikeston coach Gabe Dement. “Cate Schrumpf had eight shots and was able to get one through on a nice pass from [Emilie] Massey. [Schrumpf] beat their defense and their keeper and created an easy tap-in for herself for the game-winning goal. Sikeston created several more chances following the goal and also kept Eagle Ridge from creating any real dangerous chances down the stretch. Hailey Presley along with a stingy defensive effort earned the shutout win.”
Sikeston will play two games in the Fralish Cup this weekend in Carbondale, Illinois. The team will take on Massac County (Ill.) on Friday, April 13, and Marion (Ill.) on Saturday, April 15.
