SIKESTON — Kate Nichols and Allsion Turnbo led Dexter to a 63-45 win at Sikeston on Thursday, Jan. 26.
Nichols finished with 27 and Turnbo added 22 for the Lady Bearcats (12-7), while Landri Hammontree scored a team-high 19 for the Lady Bulldogs (4-14).
“We played a really good defensive game,” said Sikeston coach Vaughn Shephard. “Our girls worked really hard, but we could not get our offense going and we had a really bad shooting night. If we would have had a good shooting night we could have came out with the win. Coach [Eric] Sitze is a great coach and is doing a great job with the girls basketball program in Dexter, I have a lot of respect for him.”
Hammontree added five steals, four assists and two rebounds to her scoring total. Sikeston’s other top performers were Alex Segers with nine points, two rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block; Jakiah Adams with eight points, three assists, three steals and a rebound; Nayla Bonner with five points and three rebounds; and Kirsten Fairhurst with four points, 10 rebounds, 11 steals, three blocks and three assists.
Deter travels to Saxony Lutheran (10-8) on Monday, Jan. 30, and will host its homecoming against Notre Dame (14-3) on Feb. 6.
Sikeston returns to action on the road at Neelyville (13-5) on Thursday, Jan. 2.
