Sikeston's baseball team sent 19 batters to the plate in a 13-run third inning on its way to a five-inning, 20-5 victory over host Central Wednesday afternoon.
Sikeston (4-0) received three-run home runs by Blake DeWitt and Jacob Priday. DeWitt finished with six RBIs, and Priday, who went 4-for-4, had five RBIs.
Sikeston struck for three runs in both the first and second innings and took a 6-1 lead into the third inning, where it chased Central (3-1) starter Jake Welch.
Welch lasted 2 1/3 innings, gave up nine hits, struck out two and walked one. He was charged with 10 earned runs.
Priday hit his three-run shot in the third inning, one of seven Bulldog hits in the inning. Sikeston also benefited from five walks and three errors in the frame.
Sikeston took a 19-1 lead into the bottom of the third, which contained a rare Tiger highlight -- a three-run homer by Chris Daniel.
Lance Rhodes pitched five innings for the win, allowing six hits, striking out six and walking two. Seth Hudson accounted for two of Central's hits.
Hillsboro 12, Jackson 9
Leading 5-0 after four innings Jackson allowed 12 runs over the next four innings and fell to visiting Hillsboro in eight innings.
Jackson sophomore Tyler Beussink was cruising in his first varsity start until an error-filled fifth inning knocked him out of the game. Beussink allowed a grand slam in the inning.
Jackson (1-2) battled back to take the lead in the bottom half of the sixth before Hillsboro went up for good.
Tyler Profilet, Austin McDowell and Jason Owen had two hits apiece for Jackson. Trevor Thompson hit a grand slam for the Indians.
Bell City 8, Bloomfield 0
Darrell Bailey pitched a complete-game shutout and Ty Brown had three hits and four RBIs as Bell City (2-0) won at home.
Bailey finished with eight strikeouts and allowed two walks and six hits. Besides Brown, Zak McIntyre added two RBIs for the Cubs.
Advance 24, Delta 8
Advance (3-1) won in five innings as Eric O'Hare had two hits five RBIs.
Aaron Abernathy added two hits and four RBIs for the Hornets, while Justin Gibson and Zach Hudson also had two hits each.
Delta's Cody Crowden had a grand slam, Brandon Keesee had three hits and Pat Lingo added two.
SOFTBALL
Delta 5, Advance 0
Rebecca Cook picked up her third win, striking out 11 and allowing one hit in seven innings on the road.
Jenny Dannenmueller went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Delta (4-0). Krystal Burnett added two hits for the Bobcats.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Central 107, Lutheran South 67
Central swam past the hosts to improve to 5-2.
The Tigers won the medley relay in 2:14.72 as Lauren Sulser, Brett Ford, Cassie Kipper, and Hannah Lewis combined to take the victory.
Central took first and second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:59.57) as Lewis, Brianna LeGrand, Sarah Goeke, and Katie Maginel made up the first-place squad. Goecke, Sulser, Kipper, and Maginel also made up the 400 freestyle relay that won. Other winners were: Maginel (200 free, 2:15.32; 100 free, 59.83), Brett Ford (200 IM, 2:46), Kipper (100 fly, 27.38), and Sulser (100 backstroke, 1:18.08).
GIRLS SOCCER
Central 10, Sullivan 0
Chelsey Oliver had three goals and an assist as Central (3-3) cruised at home.
Megan Richards, Julie Underwood, Emily Morris, Megan McDonald, Kate Miller, Allie McGinty and Heidi Pilsner each had a goal. Lauren Thompson, Stephanie White, Erika Foley, Oliver, Richards and Underwood added assists.
Central's junior varsity improved to 3-0-1 with a 4-0 win over Sullivan. Central's JV won 3-0 against Jackson Tuesday.
Jackson 8, Hillsboro 0
Molly Hartmann scored five goals as Jackson improved to 5-0 with a home romp.
Lucy Hartmann added two goals for Jackson and Elizabeth Nussbaum had one. Whitney Werner extended her shutout streak to five.
Jackson's JV won 9-0.
Notre Dame 7, Poplar Bluff 1
Sierra Ellis had a hat trick as the Bulldogs won on the road.
Allison Essner, Ali Tyson, Lauren Mehner and Emily Buehrle added goals for Notre Dame (4-1-1). Brittney Little, Amanda Dirnberger, Mehner, Megan Holloway (2) and Emily Essner had assists.
Notre Dame's JV won 5-0.
St. Vincent 4, Farmington 1
St. Vincent climbed over .500 with a win at home.
The Squaws (4-3) got two goals from Caitlin Hoeh. Jessica Behrle and Theresa Mattingly had the other goals for St. Vincent. Amanda Carron, Stacey Brown and Jamie Behrle recorded assists.
TRACK & FIELD
Jackson wins at home
Jackson swept the boys and girls divisions at home.
Nicole Fadler won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs for Jackson. Ashley Millham (800 meter) and Sarah Lange (high jump) were Notre Dame's individual winners on the girls side.
Tyler Cuba (100 meter), C.J. Harper (400 meter), Josh Lester (3200 meter), Joe Dufek (shot put) and Bryce Willen (pole vault) were individual winners for Notre Dame's boys.
Glaser wins three titles
Kelly's Tyson Glaser won three events but could not help the Hawks get past Scott City, which ran away with the boys title.
Glaser won the 100 meters, long jump and triple jump.
For the girls, Chaffee edged Scott City. Loren Groves was the big winner for the Rams with wins in the 100-meter high hurdles, shot put, 300 meter-low hurdles and discus. Chaffee's Jennifer Vandeven swept the 100 and 200 dashes.
GOLF
Central 157, Farmington 178
Central improved to 5-0 with a win at the Cape Girardeau Country Club.
Todd Obergoenner led the Tigers with a 3-over 38. Tyson Seabaugh (39), Blake Driskell (40) and Ty Gramling (40) rounded out Central's top four.
Jackson 158, Fredericktown 170
Matt Litzelfelner medaled for the Indians on their home course, scoring a 38.
