CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — In a highly competitive showdown at the SEMO Conference Tournament, local teams Sikeston, New Madrid County Central, Charleston and Oran fought hard, but couldn’t secure the top spot.

In its opening match, Sikeston demonstrated its strength by defeating Kennett (5-8-4) in a decisive 2-0 victory. However, the Lady Bulldogs (5-15-2) momentum faltered as the team suffered back-to-back losses to Notre Dame (12-3-2) and Scott City (9-7-2).

NMCC started their tournament journey with a tough loss to Poplar Bluff (6-9-2), but was determined to bounce back, the Lady Eagles (11-11) regrouped and secured a victory over Charleston. However, the team’s tournament run ended in the subsequent match against Kennett.

Charleston opened the tournament with a loss to Dexter (11-10) before being eliminated by NMCC.

Oran’s tournament began with a defeat at the hands of Scott City. Despite their best efforts, the Lady Eagles (5-13-1) were eliminated by Kennett in the consolation bracket.

Charleston will host the Bluejay Invitational on Saturday, September 30.

NMCC hosts Kennett on Monday, October 2, and Sikeston returns to action at Oran on Wednesday, October 4.
