The Sikeston baseball team scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning and hung on to defeat Jackson 10-9 in the third-place game of the SEMO Conference tournament Monday at Capaha Field.
Sam Cox finished 2 for 5 with two RBI to lead Sikeston (12-9) at the plate. The Bulldogs combined for 11 hits in the game.
Colton Weber finished 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles to pace the offense for Jackson (16-9). Tristan Thele was 2 for 4 with a triple, while Landon Mills hit a solo home run for the Indians, who finished with 12 hits.
Will Gilmer was one of four pitchers who saw action for the Bulldogs. Gilmer picked up the pitching win in one inning of work. He allowed three hits and three runs -- all earned -- and had one strikeout and onne walk.
Sikeston's Jacob Clark earned the save, giving up one run in the ninth. He finished with two walks and no strikeouts.
Michael Houchin pitched 5 2/3 innings for Jackson and was credited with the loss. He scattered 11 hits, allowed 10 runs -- five earned -- and had eight strikeouts and two walks.
