STEELE, Mo. -- There's a new home on the range in the bootheel.
The Steele Firearms Training Complex opened to the public on Saturday. The shooting range will be open 2-6 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday; and 2-6 p.m. on Saturdays.
The range is located on Highway 164, next to the Steele Regional Airport. The complex is a joint project between the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri Department of Conservation.
"The Conservation Department spent considerable time and money to improve the range for public use, and we'd really like the public to come out and use it," said Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell.
The Complex features eight rifle lanes, nine pistol and shotgun lanes, and five pistol-only lanes. There is no fee for using the range. Although the range provides frames for targets, shooters should bring their own targets.
Hunter education and law enforcement courses are taught at an on-site classroom. Trap and skeet facilities are available for $2.75 a round. Shooters under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
For more information, call the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department at 573-333-4101.
