Former Southeast Missouri State baseball player Asif Shah has signed a professional contract with the Southern Illinois Miners.
Shah will join the Miners, an independent team located in Marion, Ill., for the 2008 season.
Shah was first-team all-Ohio Valley Conference as a utility player last season. He batted .312 with a team-high 50 RBIs, while going 7-3 to lead the pitching staff in wins.
"I'm excited for this opportunity to play at the next level," Shah said in a release. "I want to do whatever I can to help the team win."
Volleyball rallies for win
The Southeast volleyball team rallied after dropping the first two games to beat host Austin Peay on Thursday night.
Southeast won 24-30, 25-30, 30-27, 30-28, 15-9 to improve to 8-10 overall and 5-4 in OVC play. Austin Peay is 7-12 and 2-5.
Freshman Claire Keaton led the Redhawks with 17 kills. She added 14 digs.
Karleigh DeLong had 16 kills and 21 digs, while Aubrey Dondlinger had 14 kills and 14 digs.
Sarah Barth had 53 assists and 10 kills. Kim Unnerstall added 10 kills and Molly Davis recorded 16 digs.
Southeast returns to action Tuesday night with a nonconference home match against Southern Illinois.
Soccer at home
The first-place Southeast women's soccer team will host Austin Peay at 7 p.m. tonight.
Southeast (5-2-1, 2-0) is tied for the OVC lead with Samford. Austin Peay (5-5, 0-1) is eighth in the 10-team league.
All youngsters age 14 and under will be admitted free tonight. Also, fans are invited to meet the Southeast players and coaches after the game.
