SENATH, Mo. — East Prairie lost 4-2 at Senath-Hornersville on Thursday, April 13.

The Eagles (4-7) gained an early advantage, but could not hang on against the talented Lions (6-3).

“We did a good job of putting the ball in play,” said East Prairie coach Gary Scott. “Unfortunately, for us, we sprayed the baseball right at them.”

East Prairie took a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first inning when Rafe Byassee singled to score Noah Johnson.

The Eagles extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the second inning when Johnson scored on a hard ground ball by Peyton Hodges.

However, Senath-Hornersville tied to game 2-2 in the bottom of the inning after Chandler Coronado singled to score Noah Rhodes and Amador Luna scored on an error.

The Lions gained the lead for the first time in the bottom of the third inning when Jesus Mendoza scored on a ground ball by Rhodes and extended the lead to 4-2 after Michael Weldon scored on a single by Luna.

Chayse Laden earned the win after five innings of work. He didn’t allow any earned runs on two hits with six strikeouts and two walked batters. Christian Garza pitched the final two innings, allowing no runs on one hit with a strikeout and a walked batter.

Leven Turner took the loss. He threw six innings and allowed one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walked batters.

“Hats off to Leven Turner for pitching well enough to give us a chance,” Scott said. “He served a better fate.”

East Prairie will compete in the Malden Tournament this weekend, beginning with Scott City (7-4) and Malden (2-6) on Friday, April 14.
