The 2023 baseball season saw the Jackson Indians reach historic territory.

The Indians reached their first final four in the baseball program’s history.

Perhaps one of the biggest catalysts of that success was two-way star Caden Bogenpohl.

For his efforts, Bogenpohl was awarded the Baseball Athlete of the Year Award at the 2023 Semoball Awards presented by SoutheastHEALTH on Friday, July 14, at LaCroix Church in Cape Girardeau.

“It reflects not only on me but our team as well,” Bogenpohl said. “I wouldn’t have been in this position if it wasn’t for my teammates and the coaching staff.”

Bogenpohl was just one of the ten standout names that were a finalist for the award on Friday.

“The area is loaded with talent,” Bogenpohl said. “I know almost all of those guys that were nominated and they’re all good ball players and I wish them the best in their future.”

During the run to the final four, the Indians had a chance to host a state quarterfinal game.

“The home fans were electric,” Bogenpohl said. “It was awesome.”

Bogenpohl also had a game where he struck out 18 batters on the mound, threw a no-hitter and crushed two home runs at the plate.

“I still don’t even realize what I did,” Bogenpohl said. “I was just out there playing baseball not thinking about it but when I look back at it, it’s pretty crazy.”

The honor for Bogenpohl comes in the midst of the summer season where he is playing for the Cape Catfish.

Bogenpohl has had his fair share of success on the mound this summer with the Catfish as he has posted a 2.50 ERA in 18 innings of work.

Bogenpohl said coupling that success with the award boosts his confidence as he prepares for his freshman season at Missouri State.

“It’s just another stepping stone for me,” Bogenpohl said. “It was an award I wanted to win. I had the chance last year but got beat out but luckily I had the chance to win it this year.”
