The first home action in nearly three weeks for Southeast Missouri State University's softball team was an extremely enjoyable experience Wednesday evening.
Southeast pounded struggling St. Louis University in a doubleheader, rolling past the Billikens 6-2 and 11-0. The second game was stopped after five innings because of the run rule.
The Otahkians improved to 7-10 while the Billikens fell to 3-23.
Southeast banged out 19 hits in the two games, including 13 in the nightcap.
Jenny Oermann had a big performance with four hits, including three in the second game when she homered, doubled and drove in four runs.
Ricki DeArmon had three hits in the doubleheader.
Debbie Schmelz was the winning pitcher in the opener as she hurled four shutout innings, allowing three hits. Angie Godfrey gave up six hits and two runs over the final three frames.
The Otahkians scored five runs in the first inning and one in the second as they coasted to victory. DeArmon had two hits while Renee Enos and Courtney Eklund each had two RBIs.
St. Louis actually outhit Southeast nine to six in the first game, with the Billikens' Erin Jeffrey going 4-for-4.
Christine Engelhardt was masterful in the nightcap, pitching a one-hitter while striking out nine and walking none.
Southeast scored twice in the first inning and broke the game open with six in the second. The Otahkians added three in the third. Tami Hebert and Emmy Kisaka each added two hits to support Oermann's three. Hebert and Enos both had two RBIs.
