POPLAR BLUFF -- SEMO Bank Junior Legion swept Poplar Bluff in district play Saturday, winning 9-1 and 8-0.
Mark Ostendorf allowed just four hits in the opener while striking out seven. Tommy Wencewicz had four of SEMO Bank's 12 hits. Rick Davis also had three hits and two RBIs.
Wencewicz hurled a shutout in the second game, giving up just two hits while striking out seven.
Josh McIntosh led Cape Legion (5-7, 3-1 district) with three hits. Chris Barrows had two hits.
Chaffee Jr. Legion sweeps
Chaffee Jr. Legion improved to 11-1 in district play with a sweep of Dunklin County. Chaffee (14-4 overall) won the opener 7-5 behind a 12-strikeout performance by G.P. Glueck and won the nightcap 7-6.
Phillip Seyer had three hits in the opener and Brad Kolwick and Travis Friga had two hits apiece for Chaffee.
Winning pitcher John O'Rourke had two hits in the nightcap.
