IMPERIAL -- The Cape SEMO Bank Junior Legion baseball team opened the Kirkwood Fourth of July Tournament with an 8-6 win Friday over Belleville, Ill.
The victory was Cape's fifth straight and improved SEMO Bank to 12-19.
Cape's Tommy Wencewicz (4-3) pitched all seven innings, allowing four earned runs for the win. He also had two of SEMO Bank's seven hits.
Mike Sullivan's three-run homer was the big blast in the game. The home run put Cape up 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth and a Wencewicz RBI later in the inning provided insurance.
Mark Fisher, Griffan Reutzel, D.A. Slinkard and Richard Harrison all had one hit for Cape.
SEMO Bank has two games scheduled today in its tourney pool. Cape plays Crestwood at 12:30 p.m., and Imperial at 5:30 p.m.
