ARNOLD, Mo. -- Despite 26 points from Seth McDowell, the Jackson High boys basketball team suffered a 60-52 loss at the hands of host Seckman Tuesday night.

The Indians fell to 8-7 while the Jaguars improved to 6-6.

Nathan Brown added 11 points for the Indians, but the rest of the squad managed just 15 points.

Seckman jumped out to a 17-11 lead after one quarter. Jackson rallied to within 28-24 by halftime and pulled ahead 40-39 entering the final period, but the Jaguars outscored the Indians 21-12 down the stretch.

"It was not a real good performance by us," said Jackson coach Mike Kiehne. "But Seth McDowell had an awesome game inside."

St. Vincent 68, Herculaneum 63

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- St. Vincent has won its share of close games this season and the Indians picked up another one by slipping past Herculaneum.

The Indians improved to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in Jefferson County Conference play.

Tyler Wengert paced the Indians with 21 points. Ryan Brown added 15 and Mark Gotto had 12.

St. Vincent, ahead 38-30 at halftime and 51-44 after three quarters, fell behind 58-57 midway through the final period before they rallied back.

"We just seem to play to whatever level the competition is," said St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy. "We showed a lot of heart tonight and it was a big win."

Scott-Miss Tournament

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- No. 5 seed Kelly defeated No. 4 Scott County Central 60-51 to advance to the semifinal round of the Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament.

The win was the second in seven days for the Hawks (6-8) over the Braves (6-8).

Scott Central trailed by only two points going into the fourth quarter, but Kelly pulled away with a 17-10 advantage in the period.

Jon Heuring and Josh Glastetter shared the scoring honors for Kelly with 12 apiece.

Dominitrix Johnson, Todd Blissett and Chris Pullen led Scott County Central with 11 points each.

The tournament resumes Thursday with the semifinals as top-seeded Oran faces Kelly and No. 2 Scott City meets No. 6 Delta.

In JV semifinal action, No. 1 seed Scott City defeated No. 4 Kelly 58-43 while No. 2 Oran fell to No. 3 Chaffee 57-46.

ND Jr. High Tournament

Immaculate Conception of Jackson captured the championship of the 16-team Notre Dame Junior High Basketball Tournament on Sunday.

Immaculate Conception defeated St. Vincent 56-52 for the title, while St. Augustine (Kelso) got by Kelso C7 (New Hamburg) 42-36 to claim third place.

St. Marys (Cape) edged Immanuel Lutheran (Perryville) 37-35 for fifth place and St. Paul Lutheran (Jackson) took the consolation prize with a 40-33 win over CTLS (Frohna).

WRESTLING

Jackson Double Dual

JACKSON, Mo. -- Jackson and Cape Girardeau Central posted a pair of easy victories as Jackson hosted a double dual meet.

Jackson, which improved to 5-1, routed Poplar Bluff 64-15 and Dexter 63-16. Central, which picked up its first wins and is now 2-4-1, eased past Poplar Bluff 51-28 and Dexter 49-24.

"This is something new we're doing this year, with double duals," said Jackson coach Steve Wachter, whose squad will join Central in several of those contests this season. "It was a real good night of wrestling. I thought us and Cape both wrestled well."
