Southeast Missouri State University's softball team came up short Sunday in its bid for a three-game sweep of Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee Tech.

The Otahkians managed just three hits -- all singles -- and suffered a 5-2 loss to the visiting Eaglettes.

Southeast, which had swept Saturday's doubleheader, fell to 11-13 overall and 3-1 in the OVC. Tech is now 20-22 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Brandy Henry had an impressive pitching performance for the Eaglettes as she struck out three and issued just one walk. The runs she allowed were unearned.

Southeast's Renee Mueller hurled 5 1/3 innings and took the loss.

The Otahkians' hits were by Jenny Doehring, Renee Enos and Josie Earnest.

Tech, which had 12 hits, was led offensively by Holly Speiser, LeeAnne Mongar and Jennifer Smith with two hits apiece.

The Eaglettes grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI double by Stephanie Dollman and an RBI single by Speiser.

Tech made it 4-0 in the sixth on an RBI double by Smith and an RBI single by Bethany Roberts.

Southeast scored its only two runs in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of a key Tech error. But the Otahkians could get no closer and the Eaglettes added an insurance tally in the seventh.

The Otahkians will be back in action Wednesday as they travel to Carbondale to face Southern Illinois in non-league action.
