ST. LOUIS -- The Southeast Missouri State Indians left a runner on third in the top of the ninth and suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Saint Louis University Wednesday.

Saint Louis (14-19) scored what would be the winning run in the bottom of the eighth on an run-scoring single by Jim Bredenkoetter.

Southeast (20-10) trailed 4-1 going into the sixth inning, but scored three in the top of the sixth on RBI doubles by Zach Barowiak and Kevin Meyer and a double-play groundout.

Saint Louis scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Tommy Thomas (3-1) suffered the loss for the Indians in relief. He pitched one inning and allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out one. Brandon Smith started for Southeast and went four innings. He yielded two runs, one earned, on five hits and a pair of walks while striking out three. Lanson Debrock and Jeffrey Hilz pitched in relief.

Darin Kinsolving led Southeast offensively, going 3-for-4. Meyer and Clemente Bonilla each provided two hits apiece. Southeast managed 11 hits, two more than Saint Louis.

Dan Parker picked up the win for Saint Louis in relief. He went two innings and shut out the Indians on one hit. The starter, Ben Hutton, allowed 10 hits and three walks in six innings, but gave up just four runs.
