Scott-Mississippi semifinals set as Kelly, Scott City, Delta and Chaffee advance

BENTON, Mo. — Jada Griggs swished her way into Kelly High School history, draining the 1,000th point of her career during a 79-9 trouncing of East Prairie in the opening round of the Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament on Saturday.

The No. 2 seeded Lady Hawks (9-6) overwhelmed the No. 7 seeded Lady Eagles (3-11) with the statement win that showcased their title aspirations.

“Reaching 1,000 points was always something I wanted but never thought would actually happen,” Griggs said. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and coaches believing in me and giving me the ball. Hitting it at a home game was a very wholesome feeling. The support I have is unreal and that showed on Saturday.”

Beyond Griggs' milestone, Kelly enjoyed balanced scoring with Brooke Dirnberger adding 13 points, Kristin Grogan chipping in 12, and Paige Klipfel and Ava LeGrand each contributing eight.

“We played well,” Griggs concluded. “We all were really pumped before the game and that energy definitely translated into the game.”

Kelly will face No. 3 seeded Scott City (12-5) in a semifinal on Monday, Jan. 22 at 7:15 p.m.

The Lady Rams won 59-47 over No. 6 seeded Scott County Central (5-7) in the first round on Saturday.

Lilyan Landis led the way for Scott City with 19 points, while Raegan Evans and Nikki Brooks were the Bravettes top performers with 15 and 14, respectively.

Across the bracket, top-seed Delta (14-0) faces fourth-seed Chaffee (8-6) in the other semifinal Monday at 6 p.m.

The Ladycats blasted eighth-seeded Charleston (0-11), while Lady Devils edged Oak Ridge (9-10).
