Scott grabs early lead at TPC

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Tiger Woods and Adam Scott have such similar swings, it's often tough to distinguish them. That was hardly the case Thursday in The Players Championship.

The 23-year-old Aussie was in full flight, knocking down flags on his way to a 7-under 65 and a one-shot lead.

Woods continued to search for a swing he could trust, struggling to his fourth straight round over par, a 75 that put him in a tie for 108th and in serious jeopardy of missing the cut for the first time in six years.

Scott made six of his birdies from inside 6 feet, closing out a superb round with a 9-iron into 3 feet.

Kraft Nabisco Annika Sorenstam stumbled at the start in her bid to win all four major LPGA Tour titles in a year, leaving her well behind a teenager who played in the Kraft Nabisco Championship when she was only 13.

No, it wasn't Michelle Wie, though Sorenstam trailed that young phenom, too. The leader was 17-year-old Aree Song.

Song took advantage of ideal scoring conditions at Mission Hills Counrty Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., and an early tee time to shoot a 6-under 66 in her first major championship since turning pro.

Wie, 14 years old, shot a 69.

Karen Stupples, Dalhousie Golf Club's touring professional, shot a 2-under 70 and was tied for 11th place.
