The Scott County Central boys basketball team won the Class 1 District 1 championship Thursday at Clarkton by surviving a defensive battle with a 37-22 victory against Clarkton.
The teams failed to scored for more than four minutes to start the game and combined for just 12 first-half points. Scott County closed the first half on a 6-0 run, keeping the Reindeer off the scoreboard over the final 6 minutes 55 seconds to take an 8-4 halftime lead.
Scott County broke the game open with a 19-5 run in the fourth period.

Class 3 District 2Charleston's Missy Whitney scored 31 points, and the Bluejays rallied in the second half for a 55-48 victory over Kelly in the district championship game.
Whitney hit a 3-pointer with 37 seconds left to put Charleston ahead 49-48. The Bluejays secured the win from the free-throw line.
Whitney made 13 of 15 free throws for the game and had nine rebounds.
Shytoria Davis also was in double figures with 17 points for Charleston (20-6).
Mindy Robert scored 17 points and Kelly Essner added 16 for Kelly (20-7).

Scott County Central dominated the second half in a 71-48 victory against Naylor in the Class 1 District 1 championship game.
The Bravettes outscored Naylor 43-24 over the final two periods.
Scott County Central pulled away for good with a 14-0 run to close the third quarter. Janet Penrod and Brittany Godwin did the key damage of the run, scoring seven and five points, respectively.
