The Jackson American Legion baseball team's attempt to play a District 14 game with Scott County American Legion Post 369 (Medicap) was foiled for a second straight day by an unusual circumstance.
On Thursday, the game at Jackson's Legion Field was thwarted by rain, one of just two days with rain in the last two weeks.
On Friday, the rescheduled game at Notre Dame Regional High was canceled due to a lack of umpires.
"We had it all set, but we couldn't get umpires." Jackson coach Mark Lewis said. "They're tough to get on the Fourth of July weekend. They've all headed out."
No date has been listed to reschedule the game. The teams will play July 11 in a doubleheader at Chaffee.
Josh Mayberry led the Cape Girardeau Senior Babe Ruth team in a doubleheader sweep of New Madrid, 14-8 and 5-2 on Thursday.
Mayberry pitched a complete game in the second game and had two hits in each contest.
Tyler Bruce pitched seven innings to get the win in the opener. Jacob Wengert also had two hits in the nightcap for Cape (14-6, 9-3 in district).
The Cape Girardeau American Legion junior team split two at home against Scott County on Friday.
Cape (21-10, 9-1 in the district) won the opener 13-7 and lost the second game 8-5. Cape will be the top seed in next week's district tournament at Chaffee.
