ORAN, Mo. -- The Bell City Cubs picked a bad time to play a sloppy game.

The Cubs committed four errors and Scott County Central took full advantage. The Braves rolled past the Cubs 15-5 in six innings during Class 1 District 2 baseball action Monday afternoon.

"Our pitchers were working behind a lot of the day in the count, and when we get a ground ball and we need an out, that's really going to kill you especially with runners on base," Bell City assistant coach Nate Wills said. "We had very few errors without runners on base. Pitching behind is going to get runners on, and errors behind that is not a good combination for winning a baseball game."

"Kind of an ugly game both sides," SCC coach Matt Limbaugh said. "Both defenses really didn't make the routine plays. Luckily our bats were just a little better than theirs were today. We came up with some big hits. Hitting the ball 1 through 9 was big. Making the defense work, that's how they make mistakes is when you put the ball in play."

Bell City scored three runs in the first.

The Braves made it 3-1 in the bottom half of the first and then took the lead for good in the second.

Terrance Johnson was hit by a pitch to lead off, and Tyler Masters singled an out later.

Steven Minner drew a walk to load the bases, and Freed grounded into an RBI fielder's choice. Masters scored when the throw sailed. Dustin Johnson then singled to give the Braves a 4-3 lead.

The damage came from the bottom of the Braves' lineup.

SCC added two more in the third to make it 6-3, but the Cubs grinded out two runs in the top half of the fourth inning after a hit batter, an error and a two-run double.

The momentum didn't last long.

The Braves put a four spot on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning.
