Scott County Central moved on to today's finals of the Scott-Mississippi Conference boys basketball tournament Thursday with a 71-68 upset of host Scott City.

The Braves (6-9) pulled out to an eight-point lead after one quarter and were up 35-31 at halftime. The top-seeded Rams came back and pulled ahead by one after the third quarter, but the fourth-seeded Braves outscored the Rams 19-15 in the final quarter to score the win.

Chris Pullen came up big for the Braves with a game-high 31 points. Jeremy Johnson had 14 and Chris Monroe added 12 for Scott Central.

The Rams were led by Tyler Ward's 21. D.J. Walton added 16 and Jeremy Schlosser had 10.

In the second semifinal game, second-seeded Oran used a strong first half to squeeze by third-seeded Kelly 59-52. Oran led 18-13 after the first quarter and built a 37-24 lead by halftime.

Kelly held the Eagles to 22 second-half points, but could not capitalize. Ryne Wood led Oran with 19 points. Nathan Seyer added 14, and Tyler Cookson had 10.

The Hawks had four scorers in double figures. Major Burger led with 14, Lance Scheffer and Chris Romas had 12 apiece and Michael Scherer had 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Delta 94, Oran 14

Delta continued its strong season with a big win on the road.

Rebecca Below poured in 30 points, nearly one third of the total points for Delta (13-1). Sarah M. Cook scored 20, Rebecca Cook had 15 and Sara Jo Cook added 14.

By halftime the score was already 49-6.

The Bobcats outrebounded Oran 43-15.

Chaffee 80, East Prairie 26

After trailing by one after the first quarter at East Prairie, Chaffee outscored East Prairie 65-10 the rest of the way and picked up their third victory since Christmas.

Chaffee (4-8) got off to a slow start, trailing 16-15 after one, but that's when the Red Devil defense kicked in. The Red Devils outscored East Prairie 26-4 in the second quarter to lead at halftime 41-20. East Prairie scored only six points the rest of the way.

Mallory Kiefer led Chaffee with a game-high 23 points. Jennifer Vandeven added 19 and Samantha Hendrix scored 13.

Scott County Central 63, Scott City 47

Scott County Central jumped out to a 10-point halftime lead and cruised to a home conference win.

The Bravettes (9-2) led 19-10 after the first quarter, and extended their lead to 32-22 at half. Scott County jumped on the Rams for 22 third quarter points to push its lead to 23 after three quarters.

Jennifer Hoots led the Bravettes with 22 points. Brittany Godwin added 15 and Janet Penrod scored 11.

Kristin Schaefer led the Rams with 13 points and Jenny Pinkston scored 10 points.

Perryville 69, Hillsboro 30

Perryville had 10 different players score as it won handily at Hillsboro.

April Lorenz led the way again for Perryville (8-7) with 32 points. Amber Hacker added 12.

Scott-Mississippi Tournament

The finals for the Scott-Mississippi Conference tournament were rescheduled for Saturday. The junior varsity final will be at 1 p.m. between Scott City and Kelly. Varsity will follow at 2:30 p.m., featuring Delta and Kelly.

This was the second time the finals were rescheduled due to inclement weather.

BOYS SWIMMING

Notre Dame 114, Poplar Bluff 56

Notre Dame won 10 of the 11 events to outdistance Poplar Bluff on the road.

Winners included Jordan Kuper (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Jameson Kuper (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke), John Fisher (200 IM, 100 freestyle), John Stoverink (100 breaststroke) and the 200, 400 and 200 freestyle relay teams.

WRESTLING

Jackson 68, Sikeston 12

Jackson's wrestling team remained undefeated with a win at Sikeston.

Brock Howard, Cody Rouse, Kramer Rampley, Blake Ulrich, Matt Kahle, Dustin Fluegge and Charles Doerge eached pinned their opponents. Ulrich pinned his opponent in just 56 seconds to lead the times.
