SCOTT CITY'S O'BRIEN INKS WITH NAIA SCHOOL

SCOTT CITY -- William Woods University, an NAIA school in Fulton, recently announced the signing of Scott City senior Amy O'Brien to a letter of intent to play both basketball and softball for the Owls next season.

O'Brien, a 5-foot-6 guard, averaged 14 points, six rebounds and three assists this season for the 20-6 Lady Rams.

"Amy brings elements to our basketball team that could impact the program immediately," said William Woods head basketball coach Melissa Brooks. "She is a great athlete who has a quick first step. This allows her to create opportunities for herself on offense and defense."

On the diamond, O'Brien batted .487 her senior season for Scott City's 10-5 softball team. She'll be joining one of the more successful softball programs in the nation.

The Owls are currently ranked seventh in the NAIA national poll. Coming off a 52-17 record last year, the Owls have qualified for the NAIA National Softball Tournament the last five years.

O'Brien plans to obtain a degree in business.
