SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- It wasn't the prettiest of games, but Scott City High's baseball team was able to continue its recent hot streak by knocking off East Prairie 15-11 Thursday afternoon.
The Rams, who improved to 3-6 after winning for the third time in their last four games, built an 11-5 lead after three innings. But they had to score four in the sixth to break an 11-11 tie.
"We had seven errors, which made it tough on our pitchers," said Scott City coach Mike Umfleet. "But we hit the ball well (getting 15 hits) and we'd been playing pretty well overall, so hopefully we can keep it going."
Ben Sample had another big offensive game for the Rams as he went 4-for-4 with two doubles and six runs batted in.
Charlie Lindberg and Jeremy Glastetter both went 3-for-4. Lindberg scored four runs and drove in two while Glastetter scored three times and had two RBIs. Jared Schenimann added two hits.
Schenimann pitched the first three innings, allowing five hits and five runs, but only two of them were earned.
Lindberg hurled the next two innings, in one-hit fashion, but the Eagles got four earned runs.
Jacob Ressel pitched one inning for the victory, even though he allowed three hits and two runs, both earned.
Steve Posey earned a well-deserved save by working a perfect seventh, with two strikeouts.
Perryville 6, De Soto 2
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Colby Palisch struck out eight batters in seven innings to lead Perryville.
Palisch gave up two runs and didn't walk anybody as the Pirates improved to 6-6.
"Colby is probably the best pitcher on our team and he did a good job," Perryville coach Dennis Glueck said. "It was a big turnaround from yesterday (a loss to Scott City) when we walked 11 batters. And our bats came alive when we needed them."
Joey Rhodes and Thomas Barber each went 2-for-3. Barber had two runs batted in while Rhodes drove home one.
Perryville scored four runs in the third inning, getting RBI hits from Mark Scholl, Rhodes and Barber.
Windsor 6, St. Vincent 1
IMPERIAL, Mo. -- St. Vincent fell to 3-7 with its latest loss, but the Indians can certainly take heart in what happened to them last season.
A year ago, the Indians were 6-13 at one point but they closed with 10 straight wins and captured the Class 1A state championship.
Against a strong Windsor team, the Indians had just five hits, two by Dane Balsman. Derek Kutz drove in St. Vincent's only run.
Tyler Wengert was the losing hurler, allowing 11 hits in going the distance.
South Pemiscot 11, Kelly 7
STEELE, Mo. -- Kelly had its best offensive performance of the season with 14 hits but the Hawks committed six errors during a loss to perennial power South Pemiscot.
The Hawks (6-7) got three hits apiece from Tyler Schlosser, Drew Moore and Major Burger. Moore and Burger each drove in two runs.
"It was our best hitting output of the season against quality competition, but it's hard to win with that many errors," said Kelly coach Mike Scott.
Tim Schmitt suffered the loss. In three innings, he allowed nine hits and nine runs, five earned. Justin Simpher gave up three hits and two runs, both earned, over the final three innings.
Woodland 15, Meadow Heights 5
MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Woodland used a huge first inning to set the tone for a five-inning, run-rule victory.
The Cardinals (8-3) pushed across nine runs in the opening frame, four driven in by Ryan Bandermann, who homered and tripled during the uprising. Bandermann finished the day 3-for-4 with six RBIs.
Scotty Crader added two of Woodland's 11 hits while Chad Hulvey was the winning pitcher in his first start. In four innings, he allowed four earned runs and three hits.
Leopold 10, Bernie 9
LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Daniel Schaab cleared the bases with a three-run double in the ninth inning to cap a wild comeback victory by Leopold (4-3).
Trailing 7-0 in the fifth inning, Leopold tallied three runs in the fifth and four in its last at-bat in regulation in the seventh to send the game to extra innings tied at 7-7.
Bernie scored two in the top of the ninth to regain the lead at 9-7, before Schaab's bases-loaded hit closed the deal.
Josh Van de Ven, the winning pitcher, went the distance allowing 11 hits, with 11 strikeouts and seven walks.
Schaab led Leopold's 16-hit offense with four hits. Van de Ven and Scott VanGennip had three each.
