Scott City High's volleyball team spoiled Cape Girardeau Central's final home match of the season by winning a close match Tuesday night. Scott City High's volleyball team spoiled Cape Girardeau Central's final home match of the season by winning a close match Tuesday night.

The Lady Rams prevailed 15-13, 4-15, 15-7 to drop Central to 2-14-3.

Jessica Balogh had eight kills while Katie Cozby added seven to spark Central. Morgan also credited setter Jessica Simms with a strong performance.

Amy O'Brien had a team-high 20 assists for Scott City.

Scott City also won the JV match 15-2, 15-2.

Both teams will finish the regular season Thursday, Cape Central at Advance and Scott City at Jackson.

Jackson 15-15

Chaffee 4-12

JACKSON -- Jackson improved to 17-7-4 by knocking off visiting Chaffee Tuesday night.

Jennifer Ellis had six assists and three service aces for the Lady Indians. Chrissy Glastetter had six kills and Andrea Koeper added four while Becky King had five blocks and Bridget Tracy five digs.

Jackson's JV won 15-12, 15-7.

Both teams will close out the regular season at home Thursday, Jackson against Scott City and Chaffee against Caruthersville.

Windsor 15-15

St. Vincent 4-8

PERRYVILLE -- A powerful Windsor team handed host St. Vincent its seventh straight loss Tuesday night.

Jessica Lakenan had seven kills and Debbie Welker 17 assists for the Squaws (6-14-3).

Windsor also won the JV match 15-4, 15-12.

St. Vincent will finish the regular season Thursday at home against Meadow Heights.

Leopold 15-15

Puxico 6-6

LEOPOLD -- Leopold reached the 20-win mark by easing past visiting Puxico Tuesday night.

The Lady Wildcats (20-3-1) got 11 assists from Liz Nunn and five kills from Gwen Vandeven.

Puxico's JV prevailed 13-15, 15-10, 17-15.

Leopold visits Notre Dame Thursday to close out the regular season.

Oran 15-15

Charleston 2-7

ORAN -- Oran concluded its regular-season schedule with a sweep of visiting Charleston Tuesday night.

Chrissy Robertson led the way for Oran (3-16-2) with six kills and four aces. Sara Heisserer added five kills and Crystal Cochran notched six aces and three kills.

Oran opens Class 1A, District 1 play Monday at Richland.

CROSS COUNTRY

Perryville boys win

CLAYTON -- Perryville's boys won the 21-team Clayton Invitational Tuesday with 113 points. St. Clair and St. Charles tied for second with 126.

Tyson Brown was seventh for Perryville with a personal-best 17:05.

Other placers for the Pirates were: 17. Nathan Davis 17:44; 25. Ryan Hohenadel 17:56; 27. Jared Tanz 18:01 (personal best); 37. Nathan Moore 18:18.

Perryville's girls finished 11th, led by Jen Hadler's personal-best 20:55 that netted her 12th place.

Other placers for the Lady Pirates were: 29. Andrea Weibrecht 21:58; 54. Kara Steffens 22:34 (personal best); 83. Renee Schlichting 23:15 (personal best); 129.Dawn Berkbuegler 25:21.

Perryville will compete in the Class 3A, District 1 Meet in Potosi on Nov. 1.

JV SOCCER

Cape Central Tournament

The host team won while Notre Dame lost Tuesday as the Cape Central JV tourney continued.

Central's Eric Bennett, with an assist from Matt Kennard, scored as the Tigers edged Jackson 1-0.

Notre Dame fell to Poplar Bluff 3-2. Chris Dirnberger scored both goals for Notre Dame.

In tourney action today at Shawnee Park, Jackson plays Carbondale at 3:30 p.m. and Sikeston takes on Poplar Bluff at 5.

JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL

Cape Central 8th grade tourney

Jackson pounded Sikeston 54-2 and Poplar Bluff beat Cape Central 52-18 in first-round action of the Cape Central 8th Grade Girls Tournament Tuesday.

Jessica Landgraf led Jackson with 10 points. The Lady Indians will face Poplar Bluff at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Trisha Klipfel led Central (1-2) with seven points. Central plays Sikeston at 5 p.m. Thursday.
