CHAFFEE -- Becca Gowin poured in 27 points as top-seeded Scott City lived up to its billing with a 56-42 victory over No. 2 seed Kelly in Saturday's championship game of the Chaffee Tournament.

Gowin connected on four 3-pointers in helping Scott City improve to 5-0 on the season. Alaina Smith helped out with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

Marissa Essner paced Kelly with 15 points while Kim Riley and Audrey Burford both finished with 10. The loss was the first of the season for Kelly, now 5-1.

Scott City, which led 23-22 at intermission, used a strong second half to pull away from the Lady Hawks. Scott City held a 13-7 scoring edge in the third quarter for a 36-29 lead and iced the game with a 22-13 scoring advantage in the final period.

In the third place game, Kate Nolen netted 18 points as Chaffee defeated Sikeston 58-53. Amy Burnett added 17 and Jill Little tallied 15.

Chaffee trailed 32-23 at halftime, but overtook Sikeston in the third quarter with a 25-10 scoring advantage.

In consolation play, Oran netted just two points in the fourth quarter but held off Delta 30-27.

Sara Heisserer scored a game-high 15 points for Oran. Amanda Cook netted 12 points for Delta.

Oran took a 28-16 lead into the fourth quarter and saw Delta make a run with an 11-2 scoring edge over the final eight minutes.

Jackson 80, Cor Jesu 59

ST. LOUIS -- Chrissi Glastetter scored 27 points and Melissa Palmer added 24 as Jackson cruised by Cor Jesu, one of the better teams in the St. Louis area. The Lady Indians improved to 3-0.

Jackson held a 16-8 first-quarter edge and led 40-33 at halftime. A 40-26 second-half advantage put the Lady Indians way ahead.

"It was a good contest for us, beating them at their place," said Jackson coach Ron Cook.

Cor Jesu's 6-foot-4 center, Katie Neff, finished with 27 points.

Notre Dame 65, St. Vincent 33

All 13 Lady Bulldogs scored in Notre Dame's easy win over St. Vincent.

Randi Senciboy led the way with 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Notre Dame led 31-19 at halftime before outscoring the Squaws 34-14 in the second half. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-3.

Missouri Duals

JEFFERSON CITY -- Three Jackson wrestlers took first place in the rigorous Missouri Duals.

Lance Schlick went 5-0 and won the 140-pound class. At 135, Cyle Huck went 4-1 and at 119, Chris Brown finished 3-2.

The 10-team meet is divided into two divisions. Jackson finished fourth in the gold division, behind Blue Springs, which finished second in Class 4A last season, Francis Howell and Raymore-Peculiar.

Defending 4A champion Oakville won the blue division, in front of defending 3A champion Jefferson City Helias.

In its five duals, Jackson defeated McCluer North 34-25 and Columbia Hickman 52-21, tied Helias 33-33, and lost 36-34 to Jefferson City and 59-14 to Oakville.

Also faring well for Jackson were Brett Stroud (112) and Mark Wade (152), who both went 5-0, Adam Wachter (130), who went 4-1, and Kyle Watson (145), who went 3-2.

Marquette Relays

ST. LOUIS -- Three Cape Central relay teams placed seventh in the 14-team event.

The 900 progression trio of Eric Yount, Ben Roeger and Jason Owen took seventh in 8:34. The 400 freestyle team of Nathan Skinner, Roeger, Yount and Owen placed seventh in 3:29, and the 300 backstroke team of Yount, Roeger and Owen was seventh in 2:59.

The 300 breaststroke team of Zach Roberts, Gabe Austin and Ben Lowrance placed ninth in 3:43 and the 200 free team of Andrew Skinner, Roberts, Austin and Lowrance finished 14th in 1:45.

Boys 8th grade basketball

Cape Central and Jackson split a pair of games on Saturday.

Jackson won the `A' contest 47-19. Matt McComas scored 16 points for Jackson and Jeff Beck added 11. Willie Colon led Cape Central (1-3) with six points.

In `B' action, Cape Central won 33-24. Chris Freeman tallied 13 points for Cape (1-0) and Brandon Andrew tallied six for Jackson.
