SCOTT CITY -- The Scott City Fire Department was not called to the scene, but Jon Beck and the Rams torched the Scott City gymnasium Tuesday night.
Beck's hand was smoldering with 59 points in Scott City's 126-46 victory over Egyptian (Ill.).
Beck sank a school record 16 3-point shots on 25 attempts. Beck shared the old record with Mike Workman at 10. Scott City (4-0) also shot down the team record, sinking 24 of 40 3-point attempts.
"John was just feeling it tonight," said Scott City coach Derek McCord. "It was the best shooting display I've ever seen."
Beck, a 6-foot junior, sank 7 of 8 3-point attempts in the first quarter, closing the period with 24 of the Rams' 34 points. He had 10 3-pointers and 37 points by halftime.
"Several of Jon's shots went down with two or three people on him," said McCord. "I don't know what the state record is, but it's got to be close."
Scott City held a 34-11 lead at the close of the first quarter and led 66-17 at halftime.
Also for the Rams, Ryan Weatherspoon added 18 points, Luke Sample tallied 13 and Lance Amick netted 10.

"Delta was the scrappiest, quickest team we'll play this year," said Kelly coach Kent Mangels. "Even though we didn't play four quarters of good basketball, we're very pleased to get a win."
Five Kelly players scored in double figures, led by Jim Hulshof's 19 points. Jason Glastetter and Denver Stuckey scored 16, Ben Klipfel 13 and Russ Mothershead 11. Garrett DeBrock dropped home five 3-pointers to score a game-high 24 points for Delta. Greg Voelker added 17.
