CHAFFEE -- Scott City High's girls basketball team rolled into the championship game of the Chaffee Tournament with a big semifinal win Wednesday night.

The top-seeded Lady Rams improved their record to 4-0 as they blitzed fifth-seeded Sikeston 48-26. Scott City will face either No. 2 Kelly or No. 6 Chaffee in Friday's finals.

In Wednesday's other games, Chaffee surprised No. 3 Portageville 45-41 in first-round action and No. 4 Delta downed No. 8 East Prairie 46-34 in consolation play.

Tonight, Portageville and No. 7 Oran play a consolation semifinal at 6:30 while Kelly meets Chaffee in a semifinal at 8.

Scott City got 18 points from Alaina Smith and 15 from Becca Gowin. Lani Bedwell had a big game with nine points, 10 steals and eight assists.

The Lady Rams held Sikeston to eight first-half points as they opened up a 29-8 halftime lead.

"We really had a good defensive first half," said Scott City coach Randy White. "We had some kids come off the bench and really do well. Amber Dannenmueller at guard came in and really got good pressure for us."

Added White, "We're playing well right now. Hopefully we can keep it up."

Chaffee got 11 points from Kate Nolen and 10 from both Jill Little and Stevie Burks in its first win of the season. The Lady Red Devils trailed 19-15 at halftime before rallying.

Delta was led by Kristin Fish with 16 points and Amanda Cook with 12.

BOYS SWIMMING

Central 114, Kirkwood 73

Cape Central is now 1-1 in duals after Wednesday's win at Kirkwood.

Jason Owen set a school record in the 100 butterfly with a state-qualifying time of 54.09. He also won the 200 IM.

Ben Roeger was also a double winner, in the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle. His 100 backstroke time of 58.51 was a state qualifier.

Eric Yount won two events, the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Zach Roberts won the 100 breaststroke.

Central captured two relays, the medley team of Roeger, Roberts, Owen and Yount having a state time of 1:47.53.

The other relay win came by the 400 freestyle team of Roeger, Andrew Skinner, Owen and Yount. They had a state time of 3:32.75.

Jackson sweeps Central

JACKSON -- Jackson won two games from Cape Central Wednesday night, the freshmen romping 63-13 and the eighth grade prevailing 52-30.

Jackson's freshmen (5-0) got 10 points from both Bryant Beussink and Matt Roethemeyer. Central is now 4-2.

The Jackson eighth-graders (2-1) were led by Jeffrey Beck with 17. Central is 1-2.
