Scott City High School, coming off a sensational football season, is now in the market for a new head coach.
Terry Flannigan recently accepted a position as an assistant football coach at Sikeston High School for next season. He will also be involved with the track program at Sikeston while teaching weight training.
Flannigan has been Scott City's head coach the past four seasons, compiling a 25-17 record, including a 17-5 mark the past two seasons.
The 1998 campaign was a glorious one for the Rams as they went 10-2 and won conference and district titles before being eliminated in the Class 2A quarterfinals.
"I've really enjoyed being at Scott City, which is why it took me almost two months to make up my mind," said Flannigan. "It's one of the hardest decisions I've had to make in a while.
"These boys have done everything I've asked. They've worked so hard. That was the hardest part, looking them in the eyes and telling them I was leaving."
Flannigan said he was looking for something of a change after serving as the athletic director at Scott City.
"There are a lot of headaches involved with being an AD and I also think I need a break from being a head coach," he said. "I think it's a good opportunity for me. I'll be able to take care of one little group."
Flannigan, an 18-year coaching veteran who is originally from the Springfield area, will coach the offensive line at Sikeston under veteran head coach Charlie Vickery.
"The people in Sikeston really love their football," he said. "I'm excited about working for coach Vickery."
Scott City is in the process of accepting applications for the vacant head coaching position.
