For the Scott City Rams, the third time against Woodland is the charm.

The Rams finally defeated the Cardinals 46-41 on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the Show Me Center.

“We have a good rivalry with Woodland,” Scott City head coach Cindy Henry said. “The girls were coming in ready, wanting to get it done.”

Woodland and Scott City played each other four times this season, and it’s not even Christmas. The Cardinals won 34-30 in the Lady Devils Invitational on Dec. 4, to snap the Rams’ season opening five-game winning streak. The Cardinals won again at home 50-37 on Dec. 11.

“It’s tough because we play them so many times in the year,” Henry said. “This is our fourth time playing already this season. We played them in the jamboree, we played them at (Woodland), we played them in Chaffee.

“It kind of gets boring playing the same teams over and over again,” she said, “but the competition is still good. They still push each other. We still challenge each other.”

Ramsey Spinks led the Rams with 16 points, while Lilyan Landis scored 14 points. The two juniors took turns leading the offense for Scott City. Landis scored five points in the first quarter and six in the fourth while Spinks scored all her points in the second and third quarter.

Spinks scored nine points in the third quarter, as the Rams outscored the Cardinals 15-7 to enter the fourth quarter up 36-30. The Rams were able to maintain their lead through the final period.

“They're a great dynamic,” Henry said. They work well with each other. They see each other well on the court. They know typically when each of them is open, when to shoot and when to pass.”

Mallory Barks scored 13 points and Addy Massa scored 12 points for the Cardinals. Talle Johnson chipped in nine points, all in the first half. Barks is averaging 12 points per game so far through the tournament.

Woodland went 3-of-7 from the free throw line, while Scott City went 6-of-9 from the charity stripe.

Scott City will take on Cape Central for fifth place on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 5:30 p.m., while Woodland faces Kelly for seventh place at 4 p.m.
