It's one thing for a baseball team to have a commanding home-field advantage powering a successful season.

In the case of the Scott City Rams, they have such home-field advantage in not one but two venues. Capaha Field has become the Rams' second home during games threatened by inclement weather.

After defeating Bernie 11-4 on Tuesday, April 9, the Rams (14-1) have not only won all four games at Capaha Field this season but by a combined score of 42-7.

As far as the Rams are concerned, they play in "Cobbaha Field."

"We play well, we like the environment, it's a beautiful facility," said Scott City head coach Skylar Cobb, who used to pitch on this field for Southeast Missouri State in 2013-14. "We would obviously like to play at our home field but when this option becomes available when we get inclement weather, we try to jump on it."

Nobody has upped their game while playing on the turf quite like freshman Kaden Lowery, who hit two doubles and drove in three runs to lead the Rams. He has been swinging a hot bat over the past three games at "Cobbaha", including collecting four hits during their doubleheader sweep over Senath-Hornersville and Campbell on April 6.

"He picked up right where he left off," Cobb said. "He's been great for us lately and it's something that we had a feeling was going to happen soon. We're happy it's happening now and he's gonna be a big part of this team."

All three of the Rams' top starting pitchers made appearances in what was fashioned as a bullpen day. Lawson Graff, Brayden Mashek, Blake Wilbrun, and Jackson Gloth combined to give up four runs on 10 hits with 10 strikeouts through seven innings.

"Lawson was going to be on a pitch count and everybody else after him is gonna be pretty short," Cobb said. "It just worked out well. I thought they threw the ball well."

Scott City found themselves in an early 3-0 hole against Bernie in the first three innings. Back-2-back triples by Cody Massey and Jayden Robinette led to two runs at the top of the first inning. The third run came from a bases-loaded walk in the third inning.

"It was a good test for us," Cobb said. "It was the first time we've really been knocked down at the beginning. They came out and had a great approach against Lawson, who I thought was throwing it well."

The Rams took over with four runs in both the third and fourth innings, highlighted by triples from Lane Miller and Mark Panagos, as well as multi-hit games from Gloth, Kobe Watson, and Gavin Venable.

Scott City is gearing up to play their rivals, the Kelly Hawks, at home on Thursday, April 11, and will then head to the Malden Tournament from Friday-Saturday, April 12-13.

"Playing games this week is tricky," Cobb said. "You can't burn your guys because you got to have guys for the tournament. So that was our plan going in."
