MOKANE, Mo. — Scott County Central’s Namarius Banks-Warren and Courtney Sanders will represent the Braves at the Class 1 State Track and Field Meet after stellar performances at the Sectional 1 Meet at South Callaway High School on Saturday, May 11.

Banks-Warren, a seasoned state qualifier, captured gold in the 100-meter dash, clocking an impressive 11.47 seconds. He's no stranger to the state stage, having previously placed fifth in the 100 and sixth in the 400 in last year's competition. His determination to return this year was fueled by the memory of his late uncle Sonny, a driving force behind his passion for track.

“He was the one who inspired me to start running track,” Banks-Warren said. “Having him watch me compete at the state meet before he passed away was the most meaningful moment of my career.”

Determined to make the most of his opportunities, Banks-Warren described a pivotal moment during the sectional meet that fueled his drive to succeed.

"Realizing this could be my last meet at sectionals, I knew I needed to lay it all out on the line,” he said. “Getting pointers from my cousin Markesh Woodson, who ran track at Mizzou has been helpful. I just try to be coachable."

Banks-Warren's success wasn't limited to the 100. He also secured a second-place finish in the 400 (52.43) and was third in the high jump (6-0.50).

Now, with his eyes on the prize, he sets his sights on personal bests and a remarkable triple victory at the state meet.

“The expectations are to win the whole thing in all three events," he admitted. "But most importantly I want to showcase my abilities and have fun."

Sanders earned his spot at state with an impressive third-place finish in the 200 (23.01) and a fourth-place finish in the 100 (11.81), demonstrating speed and endurance.

The Class 1 State Meet will be held on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, at Jefferson City High School.
