Safety ruled out of Monday night's game

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- It'll definitely be another week before Jason Sehorn makes his debut with the St. Louis Rams.

The free safety was ruled out by coach Mike Martz on Thursday due to soreness in the left foot he broke in late July. Martz is hopeful Sehorn, who has missed 10 weeks, can play next week.

Martz said Sehorn probably did too much on Monday when the Rams returned from their bye week. He was evaluated Thursday afternoon, arriving late to practice.

"He's still probably a little ways away, a week or so away," Martz said. "How much this is a setback, who knows? It might be just next week."

The oft-injured Sehorn signed a $1 million, one-year deal with the Rams after being released by the Giants, and was moved from cornerback to safety. He had been expected to start at free safety on Monday against the Falcons.

Tailback Lamar Gordon, the backup to injured Marshall Faulk, missed most of practice Thursday with a sore left wrist. Running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery said he expected Gordon, who sprained the wrist in the Rams' last game Sept. 28, to be back at practice on Friday.

Rookies Arlen Harris and Joffrey Reynolds, who's on the practice squad, took most of the repetitions Thursday.

Martz said Gordon banged the wrist in the first 10 minutes Thursday.

"It got a little numb, so I just kept him out of there," Martz said.

The Rams also released rookie tight end Dan Curley in a salary cap-related move, and Martz said the team intends to elevate fullback Spencer Nead from the practice squad. Rookie defensive back Shane Walton (back) was placed on injured reserve in another salary cap move.

Both Curley and Walton were fifth-round picks this year. Martz said the team would like to re-sign Curley at a later date.
