BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. -- Cape Girardeau's Ford & Sons American Legion baseball team had its hitting shoes on Sunday during a 14-3 romp past host Blytheville.

Ford & Sons, which improved to 4-1, banged out 17 hits in the game that was stopped after eight innings because of the 10-run rule.

Trent Summers led Ford & Sons by going 4-for-5. Shane Gibson, Jeff Beasley and Jeff Michel all added two hits, with Michel belting Cape's lone home run. Adam Bertrand drove in two runs.

Lanson DeBrock pitched all eight innings to notch the victory. He allowed seven hits while striking out six and walking four.

"We really hit the ball," said Cape manger Ron Michel. "Summers is swinging a mean stick. He gets his cuts up there."

Ford & Sons will open its home schedule tonight when Murphysboro, Ill., comes to Capaha Field for a 7 o'clock contest.

"We're looking forward to playing our first game at home," Michel said. "It would be nice to have a good crowd."
