ST. LOUIS -- Riverview Gardens High, ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, beat an overwhelmed Cape Girardeau Central Friday night 88-57 behind 31 points from Christian Morton.
"We were just out-manned and have to recognize that," said Central coach Brett Reutzel. "(Riverview is) very aggressive and we got out of control and didn't take care of the ball. We need to do a better job of taking care of the basketball."
Riverview improved to 18-1, dropping Central to 8-11.
The Rams jumped on Central quickly, taking a 29-11 first-quarter edge. Riverview led 53-27 at halftime and 72-48 entering the fourth quarter.
Chris Bergerson scored 13 points and Russ Conner added 12 for Central.
Central will play host to Belleville (Ill.) Althoff today at 6:30 p.m.
Said Reutzel of Althoff: "From what I understand they're hot. They've won seven or eight in a row from what I understand."
Central's JV won 79-72. Donnie McClinton had 21 points and Jason Roddy added 18 for the 9-7 Tigers.
Perryville 72, St. Vincent 57
PERRYVILLE -- Mike Downen netted 18 points as Perryville won an intra-town battle over St. Vincent Friday night.
Paul Weinkein added 15 points and Todd French scored 13 in the Jefferson County Conference victory.
Chad Winkler recorded a team-high 16 points for St. Vincent (2-17, 1-6).
Perryville (12-9) assumed a 16-9 lead in the first quarter and took a 27-22 lead into halftime. The Pirates broke the game open in the third quarter with a 23-10 scoring advantage, building a 50-32 lead.
Bell City 66, Oran 58
BELL CITY -- Bell City, which went 9-36 the last two seasons, continues to make this a breakthrough season under second-year coach Scott Kruse.
The Cubs (12-6) beat Oran Friday night in their homecoming game.
"This was a big win for us," Kruse said. "It was a great game; real physical."
Bell City led 33-25 at halftime, but trailed 52-50 entering the fourth quarter.
Jacob Jenkins scored a game-high 20 points for the Cubs. Matt Knoderer added 14 points and Justin Stephens finished with 12.
For Oran, Billy Loper had 16 points and Travis Friga added 11.
Scott City 99, East Prairie 72
SCOTT CITY -- Tim Lowery scored 22 points and Jon Beck added 20 in Scott City's homecoming victory over East Prairie Friday night.
Scott City (19-2) led just 48-39 at halftime before outscoring East Prairie 51-33 in the second half.
Scott City's Ryan Weatherspoon had 13 points and 13 rebounds and Howie Stubenrauch and Lance Amick each scored 12 points.
Scott City will travel to Kelly on Tuesday in an anticipated rematch. Scott City lost the first meeting this season by 20 points.
Scott City's JV won 93-42.
Delta 87, Oak Ridge 48
DELTA -- Delta improved to 14-6 with its easy win over Oak Ridge Friday night.
The Bobcats took a 24-14 first-quarter advantage and led 48-22 at halftime.
Garrett DeBrock had a game-high 22 points, Shawn Kinder added 19 and Greg Voelker finished with 16.
Matt Preusser led Oak Ridge with 20 points and Darren Hahs added 12.
Zalma Tournament
ZALMA -- Marquand beat Zalma 72-58 and won the round-robin tournament Friday night.
In the other game Friday, Leopold topped Meadow Heights 54-49 in overtime.
Trailing 32-30 at halftime, Marquand outscored Zalma 42-26 in the second half.
For Marquand, Brandon Settle scored 17 points, Dusty Stephens 12, Eric Hovis 12 and Travis Braswell 10. For Zalma, Josh Smith and Tim Burchett each had 15 points.
In the other game, Brian Holzum led Leopold with 20 points and Adam Horrell added 12. For Meadow Heights, Jeremy Heine scored 22 points.
Girls basketball

Poplar Bluff 75, Notre Dame 48
CHARLESTON -- Notre Dame held an 18-16 first-quarter advantage, but Poplar Bluff outscored the Lady Bulldogs 59-30 from there and won a semifinal game in the Charleston Invitation Tournament.
It was Notre Dame's third loss to Poplar Bluff, ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, this season.
For Poplar Bluff (17-1), Amy Hendricks had a game-high 26 points, Holly Teague 12, Erika Emmons 12 and Emily Wyatt 11. Randi Senciboy led Notre Dame (14-6, ranked No. 8 in Class 2A) with 16 points and Jill Huber added 10.
Notre Dame will try to avenge a loss early this season to Cape Central in the third-place game today at 5:30. Poplar Bluff will face Jackson in the championship game at 7.
