Todd Richards last week began his duties as the sports director for Heartland News on KFVS12 and WQWQ. The announcement of his hiring came from Mark Little, news director for Heartland News.

Richards most recently served as sports anchor for WFIE, the NBC affiliate in Evansville, Ind., where he was voted "Best Evansville Sports Anchor" for three consecutive years.

He grew up in Michigan and attended Northern Michigan University on a football scholarship.

"I'm so excited for this opportunity to cover sports in the heartland," Richards said in a statement. "There's so much sports heritage in this area, and I can't wait to start covering it."

Richards replaces Steve Sotak, who worked in sports at KFVS for 12 years.

Sotak resigned as sports director in April to pursue a different line of work and spend more time with his family.

Richards worked as sports director at WYMT-TV, the CBS affiliate in Hazard, Ky., before working in Evansville.

Richards and his wife, Darah, have two sons.
