Reds end five-game skid 5-3

HOUSTON -- Adam Dunn, in a 3-for-41 slump, hit a two-run homer off Tom Gordon in the 11th inning Saturday as Cincinnati beat Houston 5-3 to end a five-game losing streak.

Austin Kearns, who had a three-run homer in the first inning, singled with two outs in the 11th against Gordon (1-2), making his second appearance since he was acquired Thursday for the Chicago Cubs. Dunn followed with his first home run since Aug. 8 at Colorado.

Danny Graves (5-3) allowed one hit in 3 2-3 shutout innings. Cincinnati stopped a seven-game road losing streak.

Dodgers 4, Braves 3

LOS ANGELES -- Right fielder Gary Sheffield lost track of Cesar Izturis' fly ball and it fell for a double, keying a seventh-inning rally that sent Los Angeles over Atlanta.

Paul Lo Duca's sacrifice fly off Tom Glavine (16-7) gave the Dodgers the lead. Los Angeles moved 4 1/2 games ahead of San Francisco in the NL West.

Eric Gagne got three outs for his 44th save in 47 attempts, tying Atlanta's John Smoltz for the major league lead. Paul Shuey (3-2) retired two batters for the victory.

Cubs 4, Diamondbacks 0

PHOENIX -- Matt Clement pitched a three-hitter and Mark Bellhorn hit his 21st home run as Chicago defeated Arizona.

The Cubs handed the NL West leaders their second loss in 14 games.

Clement (10-9) threw his second career shutout, both of them this year. Fourth in the NL this season in strikeouts, he fanned five and walked five.

Expos 7, Giants 2

SAN FRANCISCO -- Bartolo Colon allowed two runs in six innings and Montreal beat San Francisco for the second straight day.

Colon (7-2), who gave up five hits, stretched his streak of shutout innings to 18 before allowing two runs in the sixth. He is 14-3 since May 4, including his time in the AL before Cleveland traded him.

Scott Stewart entered with the bases loaded in the ninth and got his 17th save in 19 chances when Kenny Lofton grounded into a double play.

Mets 5, Rockies 2

DENVER -- Timo Perez hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning as New York snapped a 12-game losing streak by beating Colorado.

With the Rockies leading 2-1, closer Jose Jimenez (2-9) retired the first two men in the ninth before Joe McEwing hit a single past third. Perez then hit a 1-1 pitch into the Colorado bullpen in right for his seventh homer of the season.

Jimenez and Rockies manager Clint Hurdle were both ejected when Jimenez hit pinch-hitter John Valentin with the next pitch.

Pirates 17, Brewers 10

MILWAUKEE -- Craig Wilson drove in four runs and Kip Wells (12-11) became Pittsburgh's first 12-game winner in three years as the Pirates used their highest-scoring game since 1999 to beat Milwaukee.

Athletics 12, Tigers 3

DETROIT -- Ray Durham hit two triples and David Justice, Eric Chavez and Terrence Long homered as Oakland Athletics won its 11th straight game.

Tim Hudson (11-9) won with his third complete game of the season. The Athletics stretched their lead in the AL West to two games over Seattle and Anaheim.

BOSTON -- Kevin Appier (12-9) and three relievers combined on a five-hitter as Anaheim beat Boston.

Boston star Manny Ramirez singled and doubled, extending his streak of reaching base to 14 straight plate appearances, before he flied out in the sixth inning. Ramirez fell two short of the major league record of 16 set by Ted Williams in 1957.

Troy Percival recorded the final three for his 31st save in 34 chances.

Indians 5, Mariners 3

CLEVELAND -- Karim Garcia hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving Cleveland the victory.

Rookie Josh Bard also homered for the Indians. On Friday night, he capped his major league debut with a two-run homer in the ninth that lifted the Indians over Seattle 4-2.

Yankees 3, Rangers 2

NEW YORK -- Roger Clemens earned his 291st career victory and Jason Giambi hit a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning to lead New York past Texas.

Clemens (11-4) gave up Alex Rodriguez's major league-leading 45th home run in the first inning, then held the Rangers in check through the seventh.

Twins 6, Royals 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Denny Hocking hit three doubles and Cristian Guzman extended his hitting streak to 22 games as Minnesota defeated Kansas City.

Guzman has the longest current string in the majors and the longest for the Twins since Marty Cordova's 23-game streak in 1996.

White Sox 5, Devil Rays 2

CHICAGO -- Frank Thomas, Carlos Lee and Joe Crede all homered as Chicago beat Tampa Bays.

Dan Wright (9-11) matched his career high with eight strikeouts and overcame a couple of rough spots to win for the second time in his last five starts.

Blue Jays 4-8, Orioles 1-3

BALTIMORE -- Chris Woodward and Vernon Wells homered to back a solid pitching performance by Esteban Loaiza as Toronto beat Baltimore Orioles for a doubleheader sweep.

Josh Phelps had three hits and scored twice for the Blue Jays, who had lost three straight and eight of nine before taking both ends of the day-night doubleheader.
