The Southeast Missouri State softball team rode early home runs and the strong pitching of Elaine Fisher to beat visiting Tennessee State 6-3 on Sunday.
Michelle Summers, the school's single-season and career home-run leader, led off the bottom of the first inning with her 11th homer this year.
Jennifer Vasquez cleared the bases with a grand slam in the second inning as the Redhawks rallied after the Tigers put up two runs in the top of the first.
Southeast improved to 17-18 overall and 7-7 in Ohio Valley Conference play as the Redhawks took two of three in the weekend series against the Tigers (13-23, 5-9).
Fisher evened her record at 12-12 with a complete-game five-hitter. She allowed just one earned run while striking out four and walking one.
Summers and Vasquez both had two of Southeast's five hits. Summers added two RBIs.
Southeast returns to action Wednesday, hosting Middle Tennessee State in a 4 p.m. nonconference doubleheader.
