The Southeast Missouri State volleyball team opened its season Friday with a pair of losses at the University of Mississippi Magnolia Invitational in Oxford, Miss.
Southeast fell to Pittsburgh 30-23, 30-32, 31-29 and host Mississippi 30-21, 30-27, 30-28.
Senior setter Jamie Baumstark posted a double-double against Pittsburgh with 29 assists and 11 digs. Freshman Karleigh DeLong added nine kills and seven digs.
Against Mississippi, senior Jessica Koeper had a double-double with 19 kills and 10 digs. Freshman libero Molly Davis had 13 digs, while Baumstark added 29 assists and freshman Hannah Weis contributed four blocks.
The Redhawks conclude the tournament today with two more matches, against Western Carolina and Arkansas-Little Rock.
The Southeast softball program will hold an open tryout at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Southeast Softball Complex, located at the corner of Sprigg and Bertling.
Any Southeast student is welcome to participate. Anybody trying out must bring proof of a physical. Players should also bring a glove, cleats and any other equipment they might want to use.
