The Ohio Valley Conference might want to name its men's basketball newcomer of the week award after Tyler Stone.
Stone, Southeast Missouri State's sophomore forward and Missouri transfer, received OVC newcomer of the week honors for the fifth time Monday.
The award has been handed out nine times this season. No other OVC player has won it more than once.
Stone averaged 19.3 points and 5.7 rebounds in three games last week, leading the Redhawks in scoring all three times as they went 2-1. He shot 61 percent from the field during the week.
Stone ranks seventh in the OVC in scoring and fourth in rebounding with averages of 15.3 points and 7.3 boards. He also is fifth in field-goal shooting at 54.2 percent and seventh in blocks with 16. He has scored double figures in 10 straight games and 14 of 16 contests this season.
Southeast (8-8, 3-1) is tied for third in the 11-team league.
The Redhawks host first-year OVC member SIU-Edwardsville (5-8, 3-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
