A report on the sports action at Southeast Missouri State over the weekend.

The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team improved to 5-0 overall with its 193.800-188.725 victory against Illinois-Chicago at home Saturday.

Southeast senior Rikara Turner captured the all-around, the 14th of her collegiate career, with a 38.750. Turner placed second on the vault with a 9.775, while junior Brianna Gaddie won the event with a 9.800. Senior Amber Garlotte was third with a 9.725.

Sophomore Emily Mann took first on the uneven bars with a 9.825, followed by junior Christina Sundgren (9.800) and senior Kelley Krengiel (9.775).

Senior Jena Nguyen won the balance beam with a 9.750, while Gaddie was second with a 9.700.

Freshman Emma Garrett won the floor exercise with a 9.775, followed by Nguyen (9.750) and Turner (9.725).

The Redhawks moved to 3-0 in the Midwest Independent Conference. They return to action Friday when they travel to Centenary in Shreveport, La.

Track and field

Junior Josh Uchtman captured his third consecutive shot put title, this time taking the crown at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Ind.

Uchtman recorded a throw of 58 feet, 4 3/4 inches, which tied his career best. Senior Brandon Colbert was third with a throw of 56-5 3/4.

Freshman Tyler Mullen took second in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 15 minutes, 18.26 seconds.

Junior Tyler Terry, a Cape Central graduate, took seventh (22-8) and junior Ryan Criglar was eighth in the long jump.

Senior Chris Gill finished sixth (49.68) and senior Courtney Ellis ninth in the 400. Saxony Lutheran graduate Max Wieser, a sophomore, crossed the line seventh in the 800 (1:57.00).

On the women's side, senior Ashley Brewer paced the Redhawks with a seventh-place finish in the shot put (46-6 3/4).

Junior Rachel Kahle took 10th in the 60 (7.88), while junior Monica Noble was 10th in the 5,000 (19:05.44).

Kahle, Jerika Lewis, Jerica Hamm and Tiffany Mead combined to help the Southeast 1,600 relay team place 10th (4:00.24).

The Redhawks return to action Friday at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
