Redhawks gymnastics remains unbeaten

The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team kept its record perfect Friday with a 192.325-190.100 road win over Centenary College in Shreveport, La.

Southeast improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Midwest Independent Conference.

Senior Rikara Turner won her fourth overall title of the season and 15th of her career by scoring 38.600. The Redhawks claimed all four individual titles.

Junior Christina Sundgren won bars with a 9.775. Senior Kelley Krengiel was second (9.750) and Turner third (9.650).

Junior Brianna Gaddie, senior Amber Garlotte and freshman Jordan Salsberg, all from Southeast, tied for first on vault with 9.775. Turner was next (9.725).

Gaddie was first on floor with 9.800.

Freshmen Sarah Brillhart and Taylor Westrick tied for the beam title with 9.675, followed by Turner (9.650).

The Redhawks have their second home meet at 2 p.m. Saturday against Brigham Young at Houck Field House.

Soccer signs seven

Southeast women's soccer coach Heather Nelson announced the recent signing of seven players to national letters of intent. All are high school seniors, with three from Missouri, three from Illinois and one from Arkansas.

Two of the Missouri signees, Jacey Boyko and Signe Novak, are from St. Dominic High School in O'Fallon.

Boyko and Novak have earned all-state honors. Boyko had 15 goals and 21 assists as a junior, while Novak had 24 goals as a junior. Novak led the Crusaders with 20 goals in 2007, when they won a state title.

Jessica Grindstaff is an all-state goalkeeper from Lee's Summit, Mo.

The Illinois signees are Taylor Byrd from Columbia, Rachel Compton from Edwardsville and Stephanie Palmer from Marion, Ill. Compton is primarily a defender, while Byrd and Palmer play multiple positions. All earned soccer honors in high school.

Rounding out the signees is forward April Miller from Bentonville, Ark. Miller, an all-stater, led her team to state titles as a freshman and junior and second place as a sophomore. She scored 49 goals as a junior.

Tennis falls to 0-2

The Southeast women's tennis team fell to 0-2 with Saturday's 6-1 loss at SIU-Edwardsville.

Freshman Nikole Novikova notched Southeast's first individual win of the season, beating Carli Conners, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
